How did the project begin?
Ideas flooded my mind one day when my supervisor at work brought in a "Sack Boy" paper figure that he printed out and put together. I thought, "Hey that's a neat way to do it! I wonder if there are any paper battlemech plans." After a number of days of searching and finding nothing, I started creating my own plans; starting with basic shapes and gradually making them more complex. After I had created my first two plans (MadCat / Timberwolf and Vulture / Mad Dog), I was able to find 2 instances where people actually created battlemechs out of paper. One involved models that are bigger than my son, so of course that has a lot of detail, but if I'm going to make one that big, I'll sculpt it or cast it out of cement. The other one was a more decent size, but was so complex that other people that aren't as artistic or crafty as others I know, would have no chance of building the mechs before giving up.
